In fall 2014, for the first time in the German-speaking area, the Painting Gallery of the Kunsthistorisches Museum is showcasing works by the Spanish painter Diego Velázquez (1599–1660). Besides the enchanting portraits of the infantes and infantas in its own collection, which are among the museum’s highlights, there are many loans from leading international museums, including several major works by the painter such as the “Rokeby Venus,” “Vulcan’s Forge” and “Adoration of the Magi”.
Partners and main lenders are the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid, the National Gallery in London, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
